Allergan
|
Allergan, Inc. is a multi-specialty health care company focused on discovering,
developing and commercializing innovative pharmaceuticals, biologics and medical
devices that enable people to live life to its greatest potential.
|
|
Business Situation
Allergan is the innovative leader in many
healthcare products. For each healthcare product, Allergan develops
a creative and consumer friendly web site promoting their product. A
feature of each product site is the ability to “find-a-doctor” that can
provide the necessary medical care and stewardship. Allergan asked PDSA
to develop a single “find a doctor” portal that ALL product sites
could use and leverage.
Technical Situation
Each product site was developed with a different ‘find-a-doctor’
architecture. This increased development dollars, time and also
increased ongoing maintenance expenses.
Solution
PDSA designed web-service portal to support the multi-product
architecture. Hence, any Allergan product site can easily be modified
to direct any ‘find a doctor’ functionality to the new ‘find a doctor’
portal. This portal site included the usage of the Google mapping engine
with unique customizations to enhance the user’s (consumer’s) experience.
Benefits
|
Allergan now can move towards a common interface for all of its
consumer based products saving money and time. To see it live, please

CalOptima
|
The Agency is an integrated health care system that administers
health insurance programs for Orange County, California children, low
income families, and persons with disabilities. The Agency’s network of
doctors and hospitals includes more than 5,000 primary care doctors and
specialists and 20 hospitals serving nearly 330,000 members.
|
|
Business Situation
The Agency has an aggressive strategy to integrate and connect the doctors,
hospitals and healthcare services providers with each other and The Agency.
Ultimately, this will allow the collaboration of The Agency with its providers to
deliver a higher level of service to its members.
Technical Situation
The Agency’s web architecture is to move to Microsoft’s Visual Studio
2008, SQL Server 2008, and Reporting Services 2008. The old system architecture
was ASP classic with its security, design and technical deficiencies.
Solution
PDSA, Inc. was engaged to design and build new extranet web applications
for their providers. PDSA designed and built a new portal specifically for
The Agency’s service providers. This enables them to see the latest news, documents
and provide a vehicle to collect critical data from each provider. PDSA also enabled
The Agency to link disparate systems using PDSA’s Single Sign on Architecture.
Benefits
The Agency’s healthcare service providers have easier access to critical data
thus enabling them to provide better healthcare services to its members. From a
technical perspective, The Agency’s new .NET application environment is built on
a proven, solid architecture: the PDSA .NET Application Framework. The PDSA Framework
has been approved by Kaiser Permanente to be HIPPA compliant for its security needs.

|
Business Situation
DRMC’s website was ‘hard coded’ and very labor intensive to update and required
skilled programmers to change. PDSA was engaged to install and configure the PDSA
Web Authoring System 3.0 into their environment. We built a new web site that gathered
its content from the content manager. We trained content providers (HR, PR, etc.) to create,
edit and update content. We also provided a WYSIWYG test environment so they could see what
their changes would look like prior to going live.

Benefits
PDSA’s solution enabled quick updates to the web site by the actual content authors rather than
programmers. The solution also allowed approval of content and viewing of content before going live.
This solution saved time, money and increased productivity.
Kaiser Permanente
|

KP’s challenge was to improve their ability to respond to their internal
customer’s IT requirements. Antiquated technology and IT business processes reduced
response times and customers’ perceptions.

framework to enable their developers to create .Net application much more quickly, .Net
training so their developers could migrate from COBOL, PowerBuilder and other legacy
technologies more quickly, PDSA best practices so they could learn the best approach to
not only building applications but the management practice as well, and lastly, KP
outsourced the building of their initial applications to PDSA.
Benefits
This engagement enabled KP to ‘jump start’ their migration to the .Net technologies
very quickly and provide demonstrable results in record time and under budget.
